Newsletter From SurplusGizmos.com, LLC
"We sell the gizmos that bring your ideas to life."
Hey Gizmo Hunters,
Welcome to a new newsletter from SurplusGizmos.
Starting with this newsletter you may notice a change in the way we do our newsletters. We have placed someone new in charge of writing and sending them out. We’re hoping to make the newsletters a bi-weekly event in order for them to be more helpful, informative, and maybe a little entertaining.
Now for something less boring.
Portland Mini Maker Faire at OMSI was a blast. We had fun seeing all the other booths and meeting a bunch of new people who hadn’t heard about us yet. We wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who attended, on either side of any booth. It was a real treat and we plan on doing it again next year. For those of you who weren’t able to make it, you can see a little bit of what went on in an article on Wired Magazine’s Website.
Go figure, we just so happened to make it into that article.
In case you hadn’t heard already (since its was the headline on our web page for months) we are now stocking MG chemicals. We have a few of the basics for now, contact cleaner, compressed air, thermal grease, and liquid tin, to name a few; but if there’s something you’d like to see that we don’t have, let us know, if enough people ask we will make an effort to stock that too. So check out the new chemicals subcategory right there on the left-hand side of our front page.
We haven’t forgotten Halloween is coming!
All of you technicians of terror, engineers of eeriness, and macabre machinists looking to bring a little extra life to your Halloween this year, would do well to remember that SurplusGizmos has pneumatic fittings, cylinders, solenoid valves, tubing, motors, and legions of LED’s to bring that extra bit spooky spectacle you need. House haunters and creepy costumers can find a wide variety of ghoulish gizmos in our materials and hardware sections.
In other news our FTDI chipset cables are back in stock; but be warned they go fast. So fast in fact that in the time it took to write this newsletter someone already bought all of our USB to RS232 cables. Don’t worry, we still have our USB to TTL in 3.3v and 5v … for now. If you do have a problem that needs a cable from serial to USB you are not out of luck, we do have a second style of USB to Serial Cable that does not contain the FTDI chipset.
For those of you who often check in locally, looking for test equipment, now is the time. The gizmo guy has found several tested and working good condition scopes, variable power supplies, and other test equipment. Some of it has been listed on our e-bay store but even more is here on the shelves for those of you who come in to our retail store.
In addition to new test equipment, we’ve gotten a hold of few carts, crates, and rolling tables. If you’re looking for a shelf on wheels, a smaller equipment cart, or some big boxes on casters with ample padding, you should definitely check in at our store and see what we have, because these items are not being listed on the web.
