Description

This item is a LCD display with an ATMega8515 controller.

I believe it was used as part of a scale display system.
It comes housed in a nice quality plastic case with round pivotable mounting hole at the bottom (aprox 1 and 1/16 inch diameter). In this hole is a 4pin phone type header. (mount the unit on a tube and run cable thru the tube.

Below is the information on the unit we have gathered by probing and examining the board.

Size of unit is 5.75 in wide x 4in tall x 1.5in thick.
The board has an RS422/485 4 wire connection for power and communication via a phone / network type connector. There is also 4 thru hole positions where a standard header pin could be installed.
pin1 = voltage+ input
pin2 = Bus+
pin3 = Bus-
Pin4 = Ground

RS-485/422 interface chip is a National DS36c278

LCD display has the following items or charecters:
4 and half seven segment display (four 8 and a 1)
'kg', 'lb', 'zero', 'arrow', '-'

The LCD is driven by 3 74ls573 by Phillips
These are Octal D Latches with 3-STATE Outputs

The ATMega8515 is running at 3.6864MHZ via thru hold 3leg crystal.
It has 8-Kbyte Flash Program Memory, 544 Byte internal, 512 Byte EEPROM.

The board has a 6wire ISP SMD header for reprogramming the code in the microcontroller.
The following pins have SMD pads near by for attaching wires or test points:
pin 9 - PD3(int1)
pin 10- pd4(XCK) tied to ground SMD resistor
pin 11- PD5(OC1A)
pin 12- PD6(/WR)
pin 13- PD7(/RD)

Atmeg8515 to RS-422/485 chip connections are:
pin 8 to pin 1 of DS36c278 transmit pin Receive output pin
pin 7 to pin 4 of DS36c278 receive pin transmit input pin
pin 27 to pin 2 and pin3 of DS36c278 receive/transmit enable pins (/rcv)

on board power is supplied from input connector and is regulated to +5v via a MIC5205-5.0YM5
This 5v linear voltage regulator has ultra low-noise output and very low dropout voltage
